This one-day symposium will explore a range of issues relating to Darwin and Shropshire, including:
• The effect of Shrewsbury and its surrounding area on the young Charles Darwin.
• The influences of the Darwin and Wedgwood families on Darwin’s ambitions.
• The role that female relatives, particularly his mother Susannah Darwin (née Wedgwood) and his sister Caroline had on Darwin’s life and work.
